In the 29th game of the Indian T20 League, Hyderabad will square off against Chennai at Dubai International Cricket Stadium. The journey of both the teams in this T20 league has been somewhat bitter with each of them being positioned at the bottom half of the points table. David Warner led Hyderabad has played a total of seven matches so far in the league in which the team was able to win only three games. Whereas, all-time favorite MS Dhoni led Chennai has won only two games in an equal number of matches played till now. Chennai has earned 4 points with two wins while Hyderabad has scored 6 points with three wins.
Even after having a bad start in the tournament, Hyderabad was able to win some important matches including the one against their upcoming rivals Chennai. But their set batsmen Kane Williamson and Manish Pandey couldn’t make up for the drowning batting order which always failed to create or chase any big score. The only good news about the team is that their skipper Warner and experienced batsman Jonny Bairstow have found their lost form. Because of the loss in the previous game, Hyderabad now needs five wins in the second half of the tournament to be eligible for the Qualifiers which by figures is nearly impossible.
On the other hand, Chennai looks like it has been doomed for this season. Their whole team is just relying on their openers Faf du Plessis and Shane Watson to score runs. Even the steller captain of the team MS Dhoni is incapable of lifting his team up. The team’s main problem lies in the lack of experience among the young players. Even though they have been doing good on the bowling side, their famous spin unit is yet to provide extraordinary service for the team. This time, however, we can expect them to do justice for the team.
Total matches: 13
Chennai wins: 9
Hyderabad wins: 4
The last time these two teams went against each other in the 14th match of the tournament, it was Hyderabad who defeated Chennai. But if we talk about an overall result then in 13 matches played between them, Chennai has won 9 games whereas Hyderabad has won only 4 times.
We have witnessed some exciting games on the Dubai pitch where the batsmen department were seen doing well in the last overs of the innings. The pitch will definitely help the spinners but they will still have to face some challenges with the square boundary dimension.
